Indicator Status Evidence
Do you have a National Broadband Plan which specifies a set of measurable broadband targets or will you have such a plan in place before 31st December 2012? Yes The Austrian “Broadband-Strategy 2020” is finished and will be released by the Ministry of transport, innovation und technology in 2012. One of the targets is to reach almost 100 % homes passed with 100 Mbit/s in 2020.
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 100% broadband coverage by 2013? Yes In 2013 basic broadband coverage for all households at speeds of at least 8 Mbps should be reached. At the same time the 100% availability of broadband lines with speed of 25 Mbps and above should be reached.
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 100% coverage over 30Mbps by 2020? Yes In 2018 city regions (70% of households) should be supplied by broadband lines with speed of up to 100 Mbps
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 50% of households to have subscriptions over 100 Mbps by 2020? Yes The Austrian plan (proclaimed in autumn 2011) aims at the possibility for 99% of Austrian households to subscribe broadband lines with speed of 100 Mbps and above in 2020. There will be no concrete target for the uptake, this goal has to be addressed by the telecom providers.
Have supportive measures been introduced to support the achievement of National Broadband Plan targets? Yes The first round of calls in the funding programme “Broadband Austria 2013” is finished. The projects should cover 143 selected rural areas with high bandwidth broadband until 2013.
