Action 46 in Romania flag Romania

Member States to develop national broadband plans

Indicator Status Evidence
Do you have a National Broadband Plan which specifies a set of measurable broadband targets or will you have such a plan in place before 31st December 2012? Yes Romania has already elaborated a Broadband National Strategy (BNS) approved by Government Decision 444/2009 outlining precise targets to be met by 2015. Nevertheless, Romania has decided to harmonize the current BNS with the EU recommendations on Digital Agenda and will finalize the revision of the BNS by the end of 2012.
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 100% broadband coverage by 2013? No The objectives of the current BNS are even more optimistic than those set by the EC under the Digital Agenda, but measurable targets will be met in 2015, when the Ro-NET project would be implemented. The Ro-NET project aims at covering the white zones of the rural areas.
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 100% coverage over 30Mbps by 2020? No Through the harmonization of the current BNS, Romania foresees to meet the target broadband coverage over 30Mbps
Does the Plan meet the European Commission's Digital Agenda for Europe target for 50% of households to have subscriptions over 100 Mbps by 2020? No Through the harmonization of the current BNS, Romania will set as target that 50% of households will have subscriptions over 100 Mbps
Have supportive measures been introduced to support the achievement of National Broadband Plan targets? No Romania is going to elaborate a package of supportive measures in order to uphold the achievement of NBS
