Action 49 in United Kingdom flag United Kingdom

Member States to implement European Spectrum Policy Programme (ESPP)

Indicator Status Evidence
Have you made 900Mhz, 1800Mhz, 2,5-2,69 GHz and 3,4-3,8 GHz frequency bands available and authorised for 3rd and 4th generation mobile services use? Yes The 900MHz and 1800MHz bands, and those parts of the 3.4-3.8GHz band that are available for civil use, are available for 3rd and 4th generation mobile services use. The 900MHz and 1800MHz bands are authorised for 3rd generation mobile services use. Those parts of the 3.4-3.8GHz band that are available for civil use are authorised for 3rd and 4th generation mobile services use where they don't impact on existing users. [The MoD has made available the 3.4-3.6GHz band for new use (including for 3rd and 4th generation mobile services) on a short term basis prior to its planned release of this spectrum to the market via auction] Plan is for the 2.5-2.69GHz band to be available and authorised for 3rd and 4th generation mobile services use from early 2013. Ofcom are currently considering a request from an existing mobile network operator for authorisation to deploy 4th generation mobile services in the part of the 1800MHz band that they are already licensed to use for 2G and 3G. We are open to receiving similar requests in respect of the 900MHz band and the rest of the 1800MHz band.
Have you authorised (or plan to authorise in 2012) for use ("licensing") of the digital dividend (800 MHz band) for wireless broadband communication?? Yes Plan is to authorise such use early in 2013.
Have you implemented the transfer or leasing of right of use in the harmonised bands? Yes We have implemented the transfer of rights of use in the harmonised bands where use of those bands has already been authorised, and where use has not yet been authorised (i.e. the 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands) plan is to do so around the same time as authorising use.
