In January 2012, the penetration rate of fixed broadband is 39.3% of the population above the EU average of 27.7%.  Denmark is the second best performing country and its growth rate is very slow. Denmark has 67.4% of fixed lines providing speeds of 10 Mbps and above. With regards to high and ultra fast speeds, 13.1% of lines provide speeds between 30Mbps and below 100Mbps and 1.5% of fixed lines provide speeds equal or above 100 Mbps. Most of broadband lines in Denmark provide more than 10Mbps (67.4%). The percentage of lines above 30Mbps is 6.1 p.p. above the EU average of 8.5% in this range. Mobile broadband penetration is 80.4%. Denmark ranks third in mobile broadband penetration. In 2011 88% of the population use the internet regularly. With regards to disadvantaged people, the rate was 81%. 7% of citizens have never used the internet. Take-up of eCommerce is high, with 70% of the population buying online. 22.9% of businesses and 22.2% of SMEs sold online.  Denmark has the highest percentage of citizens using eGovernment services in EU27 with 81%. Usage by businesses shows a lower performance with 91%. In 2009, business expenditure on R&D (BERD) in the ICT sectors amounted to 836 mio €. The share of ICT in total BERD is a bit above the EU average, at just under 20%.
